Two-time Olympic gold medalist Nicola Adams targets acting career following retirement from boxing

Retired boxer Nicola Adams has revealed she would like to pursue an acting career after hanging up the gloves earlier this month.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist announced her retirement from the sport in November after she tore her pupil in her last fight and feared continuing would lead to a loss of sight.

And Adams, who also won a world title in the professional ranks, is now hopeful of securing roles in films.

Speaking to BBC Sport, she said: "I started my love for acting when I was really young.

"I had to turn down a few opportunities while I was boxing but I'm hoping to do a little bit more in the future."

The 37-year-old admits she could have continued her boxing career for several more fights and not suffered an injury, but that the risk of losing her sight was not one she was willing to take.

And while the wider public may not be aware of her pedigree in acting, Adams is confident some smaller parts she has done in the past will stand her in good stead.

"I have worked on various things like Coronation Street and Emmerdale and I played myself in Waterloo Road," she added. "It was just something that I really enjoyed doing.

"I'm looking forward to taking up those opportunities I had to miss while I was boxing.

"Ideally, I would love to be playing the main lead in a movie, so you will have to watch this space."
