British freestyle skier Izzy Atkin wins first big air World Cup medal

British freestyle skier Izzy Atkin has won her first medal at the big air World Cup in Atlanta, US.

Atkin, 21, scooped bronze following an incredible second jump to finish on 164.50.

The 19-year-old Swiss Mathilde Gremaud took gold with a score of 180.75 followed by compatriot Giulia Tanno who clocked a 175 score.

40,000 fans watched the competition held at the Atlanta Braves football stadium where a slope was constructed using 800 tonnes of snow.

Though this is Atkin's first big air World Cup medal she is familiar with the podium. At last year's winter Olympics, the 21-year-old became the first Briton to win a skiing medal when she claimed bronze.

She said after the race: "I had such a great time skiing in the Atlanta Braves stadium. It was definitely the biggest crowd I have ever skied in front of and I'm so excited to have walked away with the bronze."

Ski big air will be debuting at the 2022 Beijing winter Olympics.
