Women’s Community Shield to return for first time since 2008

The Women’s Community Shield is set to return for the first time since 2008 and will see Chelsea take on Manchester City at Wembley Stadium before the men’s fixture on August 29.

The last Women's Community Shield fixture was 12 years ago when Arsenal beat Everton 1-0.

But now the Women’s Super League 2019/20 champions Chelsea will play 2019 FA Cup winners Manchester City.

It will mark the first game the women have played since the coronavirus pandemic halted the sport, the Telegraph reports.

The men’s match will see Premier League champions Liverpool and FA Cup winners Arsenal battle it out ahead of the new season.

The 2020/21 WSL season is set to begin on September 5 with the Premier League due to start a week later.
