Wrestlemania 36 in doubt as Stephanie McMahon reveals coronavirus health concerns could lead to cancellation

WWE brand officer Stephanie McMahon has refused to quash rumours Wrestlemania 36 may be cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The biggest wrestling event of the year is scheduled to take place in Florida on April 5.

But 43-year-old McMahon, who is the daughter of owner Vince McMahon, insists the well-being of the fans and athletes is their priority.

She said: “The health and safety of not only our fan base, but also our superstars, really does come first.

"We don’t want to put anyone in a bad situation ever, regardless of the circumstance. Those are not risks worth taking.”

Wrestlemania has taken place every year since its inception in 1985, but there is yet to be any concrete statement from the WWE to suggest it will or will not go ahead.

WWE’s executive vice president of special events John Saboor, added: "Given the number of live events that (WWE) does, it’s constantly monitoring global events.

"There are active and ongoing discussions at play internally, like there are in any sector of American business, and certainly families as a whole. So I think those will continue.”
