New Louisville NWSL club reveal name and team colour

The new club entering the National Women’s Soccer League at the start of the 2021 season has revealed its name and team colour.

The club based in Louisville, Kentucky will be called Racing Louisville FC and its colours are purple and green.

It was announced back in October that the league would be adding another club, its tenth, into the franchise.

At the time it was also announced that the team would play at the $65 million Lynn Family Stadium in the Butchertown neighbourhood.

The stadium will be shared with the city’s USL men’s Championship club Louisville City FC. The men’s side will play in the stadium’s first game on Sunday against Pittsburgh Riverhounds FC.

And there has been some back and forth on the final decision on what the NWSL club were going to be called.

Back in November the name put forward was Proof Louisville FC as homage to the bourbon industry in Kentucky.

The decision was reconsidered and the NWSL filed a trademark for Racing Louisville FC in May.

The 2021 edition of the soccer league does not yet have a start date and the league are currently hosting a tournament dubbed the Challenge Cup.

Their usual league finishes in October but due to the coronavirus officials decided to have a month long season ending on July 26.

North Carolina Courage are currently leading the tournament after winning all three matches they have played.
