US soccer star Megan Rapinoe ready for 'huge rivalry' match against England in SheBelieves Cup

US soccer star Megan Rapinoe insists she's ready for their match against England in the SheBelieves Cup after their nail-biting World Cup semi-final victory last summer.

England lost 2-1 to the USA in France, but the Lionesses had a late Ellen White goal ruled out after she was deemed to be marginally offside.

And Rapinoe has said the two countries are building a 'huge rivalry' and that the US have a 'target on their back' after regaining their status as world champions.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: "For us it’s a huge rivalry. I think we approach every game like that. We’re the ones that have the number one on our back, and the big target, but we understand that every team is gunning for us as one of their biggest games of the year.

“But we know who our [main] rivals are, we know who our toughest rivals are. Obviously, the World Cup semi-final was a very close game.

“I think it was decided by a long toe nail [Ellen White’s equaliser was ruled out by VAR for offside] and an exceptional save by [US goalkeeper] Naeher [from Steph Houghton’s penalty].

“It’s two things, once you’re preparing and getting into your season, we don’t really want to give any team anything ever. It’s important for us to not only give a good performance but to get the result that we want, as well."

The US will play England in their first match of the SheBelieves Cup (Friday, 12am GMT).
