Norm Macdonald dead: Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler lead celebrity tributes

The entertainment world is in mourning following the death of comedian Norm Macdonald at the age of 61.

The news was confirmed by a represetative for the Canadian comic who revealed that he had been privately battling cancer for nine years.

Known for his dry delivery, Macdonald shot to fame on SNL in the 1990s before going on to star in his own sitcom, Norm, which ran for three seasons.

He also had big screen roles in Dirty Work, Billy Madison and Doctor Doolittle.

Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler and Conan O’Brien are among the celebrities who paid tribute, praising his “courageous comedy genius”.
