Elvis Presley was told to ‘spy’ on John Lennon by President Richard Nixon

Elvis Presley was recruited by President Richard Nixon to spy on John Lennon, according to new reports.

The claims were made by music presenter Bob Harris, 75, on the Rockonteurs podcast.

Harris, who interviewed Lennon in the 70s, explained Nixon "loathed" the Beatle because of his criticism of the Vietnam war and wanted him out of the country.

He said: “Nixon was a great friend of Elvis and vice versa. Nixon [instructed] Elvis to gather as much information about Lennon as he possibly could.”

Harris describes Elvis and Lennon’s first meeting as “hate at first sight”, saying they were just two very different people.
