Michael B. Jordan To Rename Rum Brand After Appropriation Claims

Michael B Jordan has apologized and promised to rebrand his recently launched rum brand following online backlash. Jordan’s rum was named after J’Ouvert, an annual celebration of Caribbean heritage. J’Ouvert signals the start of Carnival and has ties to emancipation from slavery, originating in Trinidad and Tobago. Many people have said that the actor shouldn’t be the face of the brand as he doesn't have a connection to the Caribbean. Rapper Nicki Minaj, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago, also encouraged Jordan to change the name. I’m sure MBJ didn’t intentionally do anything he thought Caribbean ppl would find offensive— but now that you are aware, change the name & continue to flourish & prosper, Nicki Minaj. In a statement on behalf of himself and his business partners, Jordan said they didn't intend to offend or hurt the culture. Jordan has said that they are in the process of renaming the brand. We sincerely apologize and look forward to introducing a brand we can all be proud of”, Michael B Jordan.
