G7 Nations Commit To Tackling Space Junk

Leaders of the leading industrial nations have committed to tackling the problem of space debris at the G7 Leaders’ Summit. They said they would help develop a standard of sustainable operations and recognized the hazard of space debris. In their statement, the leaders called for nations to implement the United Nation’s Long Term Sustainability Guidelines. "We are committed to the safe and sustainable use of space to support humanity’s ambitions now and in the future," G7 Leaders. It is estimated that there are 900,000 pieces of space debris orbiting the earth. The pieces of debris present a danger to the increasing number of satellites being launched each year.
