Watch lava from volcano in Spain engulf homes and forest

As many as 5,000 residents and 500 tourists have fled the area around an erupting volcano in the Cumbre Vieja National Park on the Canary Island of La Palma.

Homes have been destroyed by lava and flights have been cancelled.

The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez flew to La Palma on Sunday to oversee rescue efforts and the military and civil guard have been deployed.

“The lava left absolutely nothing in its path,” Mr Rodriguez told Spanish broadcaster TVE.

No casualties have so far been reported.
