Mexico heap misery on France footballers in Tokyo

They had a frankly disappointing Euros, but now France's bid for men's Olympic football glory has got off to the worst possible start with a 4-1 thrashing by Mexico.

Sylvain Ripoll's side are looking for a first Olympic medal since winning gold in 1984, but they collapsed in the second half at the Tokyo Stadium.

It was 0-0 at the break but then Mexico came flying out the blocks for the second half.

Vega got on the end of a Lainez cross to head the opener before Cordova added a second eight minutes later.

Gignas brought the French back into it when he slotted a penalty home on 70 minutes.

But substitutes Antuna and Aguirre added further Mexican goals in the final ten minutes to wrap up an emphatic win.
