Renee Hector leaves Women's Championship side Charlton after just three months citing 'personal reasons'

Defender Renee Hector has left FA Women's Championship side Charlton Athletic for 'personal reasons'.

The 24-year-old joined the club after spending three years with Spurs and helping the North London outfit gain promotion to the Women's Super League.

But less than four months into her time with the Addicks she has departed the south London side.

On Twitter, she said: "I wasn’t released. Charlton is a great club and I thank them all for their support and understanding.

"I wish them all the best this season. I made this choice down to personal reasons. The old Ren will be back putting her heart and soul into every game soon, no doubt."

Hector was the victim of the first recorded case of on-field racist abuse in women's football and spoke afterwards about how online abuse caused her to suffer depression.
