Federica Brignone overtakes Mikaela Shiffrin in overall World Cup standings after victory in Super-G and Slalom

Italy's Federica Brignone knocked Mikaela Shiffrin off top spot in the World Cup overall standings after claiming victory in both the Super-G and the Slalom in Switzerland.

Brignone, 29, is now on 73 points, ahead of Shiffrin, who is still absent following the death of her father at the beginning of February.

The Italian claimed a .92 victory across the combined events in Crans-Montana, claiming the maximum 100 points for first place.

Brignone has never had a World Cup finish in the top five before this season, but has now accumulated five wins and 10 podiums across the four disciplines.

With 11 of the 40 races still to go, it is all to play for, but should Brignone prevail she will be Italy's first female overall World Cup champion and the first Italian man or woman since Alberto Tomba in 1995.

The World Cup now travels to La Thuile in Brignone's home country for a super-G and a combined next Saturday and Sunday.

It is still unconfirmed when Shiffrin will be returning to competition.
