English darts pioneer Fallon Sherrock will be eyeing up her place in the last 16 as she faces Chris Dobey in the third round of the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace this afternoon.

Sherrock has embarked on a fairytale journey after a victory over Ted Evetts, where she won three sets to two in the first round, becoming the first-ever woman to beat a man on the world stage. She then took on world number 11 Mensur Suljovic in the second round and won three sets to one.

She will now battle it out against world number 22 Dobey, who she describes as a 'nice lad' and that she is 'excited' to play him.

After her second-round victory she said she was going to take 'each game as it comes.'

She continued: "I have just proved that we (women) can beat anyone. I have beaten two of the best players in the world. If that doesn't show that women can play darts, I don't know what does."

Before Sherrock took down Suljovic, Dobey had made it known that he thought she was 'absolutely fantastic' and that he wanted to compete against the new queen of Ally Pally.

The 25 year-old in response said: "I think it was really respectful for him to sit there and praise me like that, so I’m hoping we can have a really good game.

"I really like Chris so hopefully we can put on a really good performance for everyone."

Dobey's wish has come true but he is not taking the match lightly as he knows the crowd will unavoidably be on her side.

He said: "For me, If I was to play Fallon it would give me something to test myself against and I think if I can go out there and beat Fallon with the crowd against us, it would give me a big lift that I could beat anybody on any stage against the crowd."

He also told the Sun: "I’ll be going up there to do a professional job and hopefully I can end the fairy tale.

"No disrespect but you don’t want to get beaten by a woman. Fallon is fantastic, so I will have to be at the top of my game. You have to treat everyone equal."
