Huge blow to Sydney Sixers as injury to captain Perry knocks her out of Women's Big Bash

Sydney Sixers' captain and in-form all-rounder Ellyse Perry is out of the Big Bash after suffering a shoulder injury against Sydney Thunder on Sunday.

The 29-year-old, who was the star player in Australia's dominating performance in this summer's Ashes series, was trying to prevent a six hit from Courtney Webb’s bat, but landed heavily on her right shoulder.

Sixers fans were worried that serious damage had been done but it was later announced she would only be out for three weeks and is expected to return ahead of the final game of the league.

The news is also a relief to Australian fans as Perry will be integral to their title defence in the T20 World Cup in Australia in February.

Perry has been in scintillating form during this season's Women's Big Bash and currently sits second in the league runs tally, having amassed 469 so far. Such has been her striking power that last week she launched a six out of the ground, smashing the windscreen of an unfortunately positioned Ambulance.
