Chicago Red Stars 2-1 Sky Blue FC

30 min: Hydration break here and a chance for everyone to catch their breath.

What a game! End-to-end stuff right from the off.

28 min: GOAL! Oh dear, oh dear. Another long, direct ball is played over the top and Goralski beats Haracic to the ball as the keeper is caught in no mans land.

The forward knocks the ball past the keeper and is able to just pass into an empty net.

A turn around we did not see coming!

25 min: Chicago and Sky Blue just gathering themselves now I think after a fast-paced first 20 minutes here.

Sky Blue a little sloppy in the middle and DiBernardo crosses but finds no-one in the middle.

23 min: Just as I say that a chance for Chicago! Goralski is found with a crossfield ball on the counter attack. She clips the ball over Haracic but it rolls slowly wide of the goal and it’s eventually gathered by the Sky Blue keeper.

21 min: Sky Blue seem to have another player in that midfield because they are winning everything in the middle of the pitch.

Chicago look quick when they turn defence into attack but they’re struggling to get much of the ball.

That press from Sky Blue is something to behold.

18 min: At the other end Goralski breaks down the right and when she sends one in it almost falls for DiBernardo but just trickles away and Haracic mops up.

Another warning sign for Sky Blue.

17 min: Onumonu is causing the Chicago defence chaos with her relentless intelligent runs. She looks so dangerous every time she attacks the final third.

14 min: Another ball in from Sky Blue as Flores clips one in but Onumonu can’t get any power on the header and Naeher deals with it easily.

Aside from the two or three minutes after the opening goal, Sky Blue have looked like the better side thus far.

12 min: This is sensational entertainment! Sky Blue come forward again as St. Georges has to hash clear when the ball is lofted in.

The corner comes in but it’s cleared.

10 min: GOAL! Watt makes up for failing to control just moments earlier as she is slid through and curls beyond Haracic!

What a start!
