Athletic Club won the 20/21 Spanish Supercup in epic fashion, beating Real Madrid in the semi-finals and FC Barcelona in the final after extra time. Out of the 22 times he had faced Barça, their newly-appointed manager Marcelino had only won once, that previous triumph being the 2019 Copa del Rey Final with Valencia. This time he once again defeated Barça in a decisive game.
