Phil Neville reveals England Lionesses will have menstrual cycles monitored in a bid to maximise performance at SheBelieves Cup

England Lionesses head coach Phil Neville has revealed that new physical performance coach Jill Scott will monitor the menstrual cycles of his players ahead of their SheBelieves Cup defence next month.

This follows the announcement by Chelsea this week that they are to monitor cycles and tailor training around them in order to minimise injury and maximise performance.

Scott, who was appointed in November after helping the US Women's National team to consecutive FIFA World titles, will meet the England team for the first time at a training camp ahead of the four-nation SheBelieves Cup which starts on Match 5.

The American was part of the backroom staff with the USWNT who introduced specialist sports consultants to monitor stages of the player's cycles and this is something Neville is hoping she will bring to the England team.

In a press conference, he said: "This week, there has been a massive thing about menstrual cycle, which Dawn implemented with the US national team.

"The same people are working with Chelsea now, and we are implementing it now with our girls.

"Dawn has already spoken to a lot of the players about it and made a big impact already," he added.

"You can't just have one shop fits all with men and women's football. We have to tailor our philosophies, profiles; the way we test, strength and condition."

England will begin the defence of their SheBelieves title against World Champions the USA on March 6 at the Exploria Stadium in Florida.
