Elijah Wood reveals pop at Harvey Weinstein in Lord of the Rings

Elijah Wood has revealed director Peter Jackson hid an Easter egg in the Lord of the Rings movies designed as an insult to fallen Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein’s Miramax acquired the rights to the J. R. R. Tolkien books in the mid-1990s, however due to creative differences, they asked if the films could be shopped to elsewhere.

Weinstein agreed, but under strict conditions that could have seen the films shelved altogether.

Appearing on podcast The Armchair Expert, Wood explained that as a result, one of the orc masks was “designed to look like Harvey Weinstein as a sort of a f**k you.”
