A Pekingese Called Wasabi Wins The Westminster Dog Show

A Pekingese called Wasabi won Best in Show at the 145th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The Westminster Dog Show is the second-oldest continuous sporting event in the US, after the Kentucky Derby. Wasabi’s breeder David Fitzpatrick said that the 3-year-old Pekingese will celebrate his win by having a filet mignon. Fitzpatrick believes Wasabi’s ‘showmanship’ and “sparkle” helped him win. Before a dog can win Best in Show it must first win Best of Breed and then its group category. A Whippet called Bourbon, who was also the runner-up of the show won first place in the Hound Group. The winner of the Non-Sporting Group was a French Bulldog called Matthew. while an Old English Sheepdog called Connor won first place in the Herding group. Wasabi won first place in Toy Group and a German Shorthaired Pointer called Jade won the Sporting Group.
