T-Pain Reveals He Became Depressed After Usher Criticism

T-Pain has revealed that a comment from Usher about his use of Auto-Tune caused him to be depressed for several years. The rapper, whose real name is Faheem Rasheed Najm, revealed the news in a clip from the Netflix series ‘This Is Pop’. According to T-Pain, Usher said that his use of Auto-Tune makes it difficult for “real singers”. The rapper said that at the time he was confused as he “didn't tell everybody else” to start using Auto-Tune. I don't even think I realized this for a long time, but that's the very moment that started a four-year depression for me, T-Pain. T-Pain single-handedly popularized the use of Auto-Tune in hip-hop music in the early 2000s with his debut single ‘I’m Sprung’. He is one of several artists who feature in ‘This Is Pop’, a series that uncovers the real stories behind the biggest moments in pop.
