MLS suspended

MLS has announced that it is suspending its league for 30 days.

The league began on February 29 and follows President Donald Trump's order for no flights to come into America for the same amount of time due to an increase in US cases.

The National Basketball League has been also been suspended.

ATP Tour postponed for six week

The ATP Tour and ATP Challenger Tour tournaments have been cancelled until April 27. 

ATP confirmed the news "due to escalating health and safety issues" over the coronavirus outbreak. 

Australian Grand Prix called off

The Formula 1 Season Opener in Australia will not go ahead in Melbourne this weekend

McLaren had already withdrawn from the event after one of their team tested positive for coronavirus.

Before the announcement, defending Champion Lewis Hamilton had expressed his disgust that the event was still running.

Republic of Ireland to close schools, colleges and other public facilities

Schools, colleges and other public facilities will close from 18:00 today until March 29.

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar urges cancellation of indoor gatherings of over 100 and outdoor gatherings of over 500.

Workers told to work remotely where possible.

La Liga suspended after Real Madrid squad quarantined

Spain's top flight La Liga has been suspended for "at least the next two rounds of matches" after the Real Madrid squad were quarantined.

This quarantine came because a Real Madrid basketball player, who trains at the same facilities as the football club, tested positive for coronavirus.

Real Madrid were due to play at Manchester City on Tuesday in the Champions League.

The club have closed their facilities.

McLaren withdraw from Australian Grand Prix

McClaren have pulled out of this weekend's Australian Grand Prix after one of their team tested positive for coronavirus.

The infected team member is self-isolating in Australia.

They said the choice to withdraw was "based on a duty of care" to the Formula 1 stakeholders.

Arsenal forward Caitlin Foord will self-isolate for 14 days

Matildas head coach Ante Milicic has confirmed that Arsenal forward Caitlin Foord will be quarantined for 14 days before returning back to the UK.

Milicic said Arsenal had liaised with the UK government before making the final decision.  

WTA and ATP tours could be postponed

The WTA and ATP tours may be delayed until May after pressure from its players.

If the decision is made, no tennis will be played until the Madrid Open on May 3.

The news follows the 12-team Fed Cup Finals being postponed yesterday.

NBA season suspended after player tests positive

The National Basketball Association's season has been suspended until further notice after Oklahoma City Thunder player Utah Jazz tested positive.

The league released a statement to announce the suspension. It read: “The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice.

“The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”

Basketball legend Lebron James reacted to the suspension on social media.

He wrote: "Man we cancelling sporting events, school, office work, etc etc. What we really need to cancel is 2020!

"Damn it’s been a rough 3 months. God bless and stay safe"

Donald Trump suspends flights from Europe

US president Donald Trump has suspended flights to the US from Europe for 30 days.

This is an attempt to stop the spreading of the virus but the ban does not apply to US citizens.

The ban also does not apply to the UK but to countries that are in the European Union's Schengen border-free area.

The US has had 1,135 confirmed cases with 38 deaths.
