Liverpool's Van Dijk has his say on the coronavirus impact

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has also spoken about the coronavirus impact on sport.

The Reds currently sit 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League and look set to secure their first title for 30 years.

But with all elite English football having been suspended until April 3 at the earliest, there is a strong possibility they may not be allowed to clinch the title.

Speaking about the situation, he said: “If we won it in an empty stadium and the fans weren’t there, I’d be gutted for them.

“Obviously if there are no fans at Anfield then it will be a bit of a blow – no one wants to play games without the fans.

“Until a decision is made on how we go on from here, then we just have to deal with it. But when it happens we are still bringing the title to our fans, definitely.”

Athletes confused about what to do

One of the most famous cyclists in the world, Mathieu van der Poel, has opened up about what it's like as a rider/athlete during these testing times.

In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, he said: "Nobody can say when the next race will be. That makes it difficult. What are we training for? Even the Olympics isn't a sure thing anymore.

"As a rider there's nothing you can do about it. So, I try not to get too worked up about it. Those first cancellations in Italy I didn't even think it was a disaster. I had been ill anyway and needed time.

"But now. The hardest part is – what are we going to train for the next few weeks? To what point are you going to peak? Nobody knows at the moment when we can even start again."
